Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Sand over limestone drains rapidly and can turn water-repellent in summer — a wetting agent, plus splitting the run into two shorter cycles inside the same watering window (both before 9am, or both after 6pm), is the standard fix in this belt.

Reinstating the surface after a Mount Pleasant repair
A Mount Pleasant property had a leaking pipe in the back yard, which testing traced to a point near the solenoid valve (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station). Our technician excavated the area and redid the pipework to fix it properly — the section had previously been repaired by a gardener, and a repair made without the right fittings tends to become the next leak.
The part worth mentioning is what happened afterwards: the area was cleaned up, the paving put back and the rocks reinstated. Reinstatement is not a courtesy, it is part of the job; a retic repair that leaves an open hole and a stack of pavers is not finished.
With the leak resolved, all five stations were tested and the rest of the system found to be in good working order, with no other leaking pipes or sprinklers.
Swapping every solenoid while the Mount Pleasant box was open
In October 2025, station 2 at this Mount Pleasant home had a solenoid stuck open. Our technician located the valve and replaced the faulty solenoid. A stuck-open solenoid keeps water flowing to its station after the controller has told it to stop, so it is not a fault to leave sitting.
Only one solenoid was stuck, but with the valve box already exposed, our technician advised replacing the lot while access was easy. All of them were swapped, and as expected, every one of the old solenoids turned out to be in poor condition.
