Locating what could be located in Salter Point
A Salter Point job had two halves, and only one of them succeeded on the day. Our technician used a valve locator to find the solenoids (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station), replaced a faulty one and repaired a leak in the station line, after which the system was tested and pressure was back to normal.
The part that did not resolve was the pipe feed running to the back yard. After a considerable amount of exploratory digging alongside the owner it could not be traced — buried pipe with no locating wire and no surface evidence is genuinely difficult to find, and there is a point where continuing to dig costs more than it can return.
The owner planned to keep looking and to establish which direction pressure was arriving from, which is the most useful clue for narrowing the search.
