Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Quick-draining yellow sand where moisture rarely lingers; frequent short cycles and periodic coverage checks keep growth even across the limestone country.
Groundwater & bores. Good bore country: the superficial aquifer is within practical drilling reach under these sands. Watering from a bore costs pumping power rather than scheme rates — with the same 2-day roster and winter ban as everyone else.

A Manning system that wouldn't pop up
A Manning customer got in touch simply confused — the reticulation was not working and nothing obvious explained why. Our technician tested all four stations.
The heads were struggling to pop up, which is a pressure symptom rather than a head fault: a pop-up needs enough pressure to lift the stem and hold the seal, and when it does not get there the head sits half-risen and dribbles. The master solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) was replaced, along with a station solenoid and two nozzles, and the controller programmed correctly.
Sprinklers that will not rise properly are worth investigating rather than simply replacing. Fitting new heads to a system with a pressure problem produces new heads that also will not rise, and the actual fault — a valve not opening fully, a partly blocked line, or a leak upstream — stays exactly where it was.
A split mainline under a Manning front lawn
The water was already isolated at the mains when we got to this Manning home in March 2026: the mainline had split off a fitting under the front lawn. Our technician excavated the break and repaired it with a 25 mm telescopic joiner, a fitting that slides to bridge a gap without stretching the pipe.
We also advised replacing the master valve while the system was open. It was located electronically, dug out, replaced and brought up to the surface in a rectangular valve box so it can be reached without digging next time. Every station and the controller program were then checked, and the lawn and garden reinstated.
