A hammering solenoid and two leaks under a Waterford driveway
A Waterford property reported a solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) making a hammering noise, along with a suspected leak under the paved driveway. Both turned out to be real.
Our technician found and repaired two leaks beneath the driveway, then reinstated the paving properly rather than leaving it stacked. The hammering is worth explaining: the noise usually comes from a valve closing too abruptly against the flow, sending a pressure shock back along the pipework.
It is not just a noise — repeated water hammer stresses joints and fittings, and it is a plausible contributor to leaks appearing elsewhere on the same system. A sprinkler and two MP nozzles were also replaced.
A leak under a hard surface is one of the few that genuinely justifies lifting paving: it will not resolve itself, and it undermines the surface above it.
