A Shelley valve replaced under paving
A Shelley property had sprinklers in the back garden leaking constantly, which traced to the station 3 valve — located in a paved area, and requiring excavation to reach. The isolation valve had to be dug out too before the system could be shut down to work on it.
Both were excavated and the station 3 valve replaced. The system has no master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off) at all, which is worth understanding in context: with no master valve the mainline is pressurised whenever the supply is on, so a failing station valve leaks continuously rather than only during its own watering cycle.
That is why the leaking was constant rather than intermittent. With the valve replaced, the system was tested and the controller programming checked — the controller itself having been replaced on a recent visit.
