Our technician checked the valves at the rear and found the cause: two joins in the wiring harness had been made with standard electrical connectors rather than irrigation-rated ones.
Ordinary connectors are not designed to sit in wet ground. Once moisture gets in, the join corrodes and can short, which is precisely the fault that blows a controller fuse.
Both joiners were replaced with the correct type, the coil on that station replaced, and the controller fuse renewed. The system was then tested end to end and the programming checked.
