Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Classic Spearwood profile: free-draining sand, limestone beneath. Lawns respond best to two shorter cycles inside the same watering window (both before 9am, or both after 6pm), and sprinkler layouts need decent pressure to cover evenly.
Groundwater & bores. Groundwater under this part of the coastal plain is generally accessible, so a garden bore (new or revived) is a practical way to water without paying scheme rates. Water Corporation's roster and winter sprinkler ban still apply to bores.
Rainfall — about 718mm a year. Local average is ~718mm a year, about 79% of it in the May-September wet season (Perth Metro) — reprogram seasonally and switch sprinklers off for the mandatory June-August ban.

Four stations, station by station, in Victoria Park
A Victoria Park property was worked through station by station, and the record reads that way deliberately. Station 1, the front lawn verge, needed a pop-up sprinkler and a nozzle replaced.
Station 2, also verge, needed a nozzle. Station 3, covering the front lawn and gardens, had two micro spray nozzles replaced.
Station 4, the garden beside the driveway, needed one. Nothing dramatic — but testing each station individually is what produced a complete list rather than only the fault visible from the front path.
On a four-station system the difference between checking one station and checking all four is a few minutes on site, and it is the difference between a garden that waters evenly and one where two areas quietly go short until someone notices the plants.
Nozzles and coverage on a two-station Victoria Park system
This Victoria Park system has two stations, and in November 2025 our technician tested both before getting into repairs. One faulty sprinkler was replaced, along with four nozzles and three spray nozzles that water the plants.
Another three nozzles were changed purely to improve coverage, and the controller was programmed. "I'm very happy with the results. I had a bad sprinkler leak where the main pipe connected to my solenoid valve, but Perth Reticulation Experts were able to come out and fix it with ease. Since mine wasn't an urgent job (as I could prevent the leak by keeping my sprinklers turned off), there was a bit of delay in being able to send somebody out, approximately 2.5 weeks. But when the guys did come out to repair it, they were very friendly, knowledgeable, and worked really quickly. They even serviced my other sprinklers in my garden to improve their performance, replacing a few broken heads and improving the range of others. When I had questions about smart sprinkler controllers, they were more than happy to give me advice and expert opinions. And to top it all off, when the invoice arrived, it was very reasonable for the work which was done.
