Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic

Valve boxes, and knowing where your valves are, in Mount Lawley
A Mount Lawley owner asked us to find the solenoids (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) in the front yard and put valve boxes over them — the best guess as to their location was somewhere near the rose bush. Our technician located all three valves, for stations 1, 2 and 3.
With them already unearthed we suggested replacing all three while access was open, rather than digging them up again individually later, and the owner agreed. The three solenoids were swapped and valve boxes fitted.
The owner was pleased to be shown exactly where the valves sit, which is the real value of the job. Valve boxes turn an unknown buried component into something anyone can open in thirty seconds.
Every future repair on that system is cheaper because of it, and nobody has to dig up a rose bush to find out.
A Mount Lawley lawn converted to gear drives
This Mount Lawley job in September 2024 was an upgrade rather than a repair, done over two visits. A new four-station Hunter controller went in on the existing wiring and power point, and its wiring told our technician to expect two valves for the front, which were then located. The old drip line came out, broken PVC in the rear garden beds was replaced, and new 20 mm PVC was hand-dug into the lawn.
The lawn's pop-ups were swapped for Hunter PGJ gear-drive sprinklers, specifically to avoid blockages. Spray nozzles have small openings that sand and debris can clog; a gear drive's larger stream is more forgiving.
