Extensive wire damage on a Highgate system
A Highgate system came in with problems on both sides of the valve: extensive damage to the field wiring, and faulty solenoids (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) at the end of it. Our technician repaired the field wire, replaced the failed valves, repaired the poly pipe, then flushed the system and adjusted and replaced fittings across it before setting the controller.
Wire damage and solenoid failure often appear together, and it is worth understanding why. A damaged wire can leave a coil energised intermittently, and repeated partial energising is hard on a solenoid.
Equally, a failing coil draws current abnormally, which stresses the circuit. Repairing one and not the other tends to bring the system back for a second visit, so where both are present it is usually right to deal with both at once.
