Flushing a long-dormant Koongamia system
A Koongamia system had been inactive for a long time, and that shapes the whole job. The controller was functional but would not turn on for testing, so our technician traced the solenoids (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) and worked manually.
The lack of water traced to the master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off), found under a bush near station 10. With that dealt with, the controller was set up and the stations brought back into operation.
The system still needed more flushing than a single pass. Pipework that has sat unused accumulates sediment and biofilm, and the first water through pushes that material straight into the nozzles — so flushing repeatedly, before and after fitting clean nozzles, is what stops the blockages recurring.
Recommissioning a dormant system is a different job from repairing a running one, and it takes longer than people expect.
