Chasing cut wiring in Swan View
A Swan View system had its wiring cut in multiple places, which meant the valves could not be found electronically the usual way — a wire tracer needs a continuous circuit to follow. Our technician located every solenoid valve (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) by potholing (digging small test holes to find it) along the mainline instead, then tested each station manually and repaired the pipework and sprinklers.
Four separate wiring repairs were made where the cable could be saved and signal recovered. Testing then identified further breaks still to be dealt with, and the condition of one section — dug up and chewed apart — suggests animal damage rather than a garden tool.
We would rather report that the wiring has more breaks in it than pretend the job is closed. On a system this compromised the realistic options are progressive repair or a new wire run, and the owner should get to choose.
