A shorted coil on a Jane Brook system
A Jane Brook system had a shorted coil on station 1, which our technician replaced. A short is a different failure from an open circuit, and it is the more urgent of the two.
An open circuit simply means the station will not run; a short draws excessive current through the controller's output, and on many units that will blow a fuse or damage the station output permanently — so one failed coil can take the controller with it if it is left. That is why a station that has stopped working is worth testing rather than ignoring until the next service.
Minor repairs were made to blocked and broken sprinklers, and the controller checked and programmed. As always, attending to the visible faults does not mean nothing else will surface later — only that what could be seen was dealt with.
