What does Carine’s soil and water mean for your retic?

Reducing the joins on a Carine manifold
A Carine system was having a master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off) added, and unearthing the PVC to work out how to tie it into the existing manifold revealed a problem worth fixing while everything was open: the pipework ran at awkward angles and used a large number of joins. Every join is a potential leak, so a manifold assembled from many of them is a manifold that will keep producing faults.
Our technician pointed this out to the owner, who agreed to have it dealt with, and the manifold was rebuilt with the solenoids replaced. There was no spare wire available for the new master valve, so an existing field wire was used with an add-a-station (a device that runs a second valve off an existing wire) device rather than trenching a new run.
An isolation valve was installed alongside. Rebuilding once, with fewer joins, is cheaper than repairing each of them in turn.
