Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Free-draining yellow sand with limestone often close beneath — great drainage, poor moisture holding. Splitting one watering into two cycles inside the same window suits it, and retic trenching can hit caprock.
Groundwater & bores. Good bore country: the superficial aquifer is within practical drilling reach under these sands. Watering from a bore costs pumping power rather than scheme rates — with the same 2-day roster and winter ban as everyone else.
Rainfall — about 775mm a year. Local average is ~775mm a year, about 79% of it in the May-September wet season (Gosnells City) — reprogram seasonally and switch sprinklers off for the mandatory June-August ban.

Tracing two wire breaks either side of a Cannington driveway
A Cannington system had station 2 failing, and diagnostics at both the controller and the valve manifolds pointed at the wiring. Electronic tracing located two separate break points — one just before the driveway entrance paving and another after it, with a short section of wire between them damaged.
That pattern is telling: breaks either side of a paved crossing usually mean the paving works are the cause. The damaged section was replaced and the second break rejoined.
Our technician also noted the wider risk. Station 2 runs two solenoids wired together at the manifold rather than at the controller, and there are multiple wire joins between the controller and the valves.
Every join is a potential future failure point, so a system with many of them will keep producing wiring faults until the run is replaced.
Three stations fixed, two valves still to find in Cannington
This February 2026 visit in Cannington is only half a success story, and we would rather say so. Testing the system turned up minor pressure and operating problems on stations 1, 2 and 3, and those were sorted while our technician was on site.
Stations 4 and 5 were a different matter. They still weren't running at full capacity, and their solenoid valves couldn't be found on the day. More time on site was needed, with a second technician to help work through location-finding methods. Hidden valves often take longer to find than to fix, which is why a second pair of hands is worth booking rather than digging on a hunch.
