A yucca stump grown into an Alfred Cove sprinkler
An Alfred Cove property had a slight leak with an unusual cause: a yucca stump had grown into the sprinkler itself. Plants do not merely grow around irrigation — where a head sits close to a stem or a stump, the plant expands into the fitting over years and eventually splits or displaces it.
Our technician's recommendation was not to repair it in place. While the yuccas remain, any repair sits against the same expanding stump and will fail the same way, so the sensible sequence is to remove the plants first, then renew the pipework in that area.
Meanwhile the controller was checked and programmed and minor repairs made to blocked and broken sprinklers. It is worth being clear that attending to visible faults does not make a system faultless — only that what could be seen on the day was dealt with.
