Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Quick-draining yellow sand where moisture rarely lingers; frequent short cycles and periodic coverage checks keep growth even across the limestone country.
Groundwater & bores. Good bore country: the superficial aquifer is within practical drilling reach under these sands. Watering from a bore costs pumping power rather than scheme rates — with the same 2-day roster and winter ban as everyone else.

Cutting overspray on a Wembley system
A Wembley system needed a new controller, and our technician installed and programmed a four-station unit before testing every station. A failed solenoid coil (the electrical part of that valve) on station 3 was replaced.
The detail worth drawing out is a smaller one: a 360-degree nozzle was swapped for a 180-degree nozzle. A full-circle nozzle sitting against a wall, fence or edge throws half its water onto a hard surface, where it runs off and does nothing for the garden — and because that half is wasted, the area that does need water receives less than the run time suggests.
Matching the arc of the nozzle to the shape of the area it sits in is one of the simplest efficiency improvements available on any system, and it needs no new pipework, no digging and no additional station.
Corroded wiring turned up in a Wembley valve swap
Working from the client's own plan of the system is usually a good head start. At this Wembley home in November 2025, our technician used it to look for the solenoid valves, but one of them proved hard to find, so it was pinned down with a locator instead. The station 1 solenoid was then swapped out.
The wiring told its own story. It was in very poor condition, with green corrosion inside the cable even after cutting back roughly a metre from the valve. We advised the client that a rewire would pay off if further wiring faults appear. Corrosion that has crept that far along a cable seldom stops at the point where you cut it.
