Downsizing a controller, and moving the verge heads, in Shenton Park
A Shenton Park system was running an eight-station controller it did not need, and the owner agreed to replace it with a four-station unit sized to the actual number of stations. Our technician fitted the new controller and ran a system check, which showed the master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off) was faulty; it was replaced.
The verge was the other half of the job. Risers (the upright pipe a sprinkler sits on) there were replaced with four-inch pop-ups and repositioned slightly, because a riser standing proud on a verge is exposed to foot traffic, mowers and vehicles in a way a retracting pop-up is not.
Verge heads take more punishment than anything else on a domestic system. Choosing a head that sits flush when it is not running, and placing it where it is least likely to be stood on, is the difference between an annual repair and one that lasts.
