Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Classic Spearwood profile: free-draining sand, limestone beneath. Lawns respond best to two shorter cycles inside the same watering window (both before 9am, or both after 6pm), and sprinkler layouts need decent pressure to cover evenly.
Groundwater & bores. This suburb sits on Perth's sandy coastal plain over the superficial aquifer, where garden bores are common and generally productive. Bore water isn't metered like scheme supply, so a serviced bore slashes the cost of keeping gardens green — the standard 2-day roster and June-August sprinkler switch-off still apply.
Rainfall — about 718mm a year. Averages about 718mm a year at the Perth Metro gauge with roughly 79% falling May-September — so the controller should step down through autumn and observe the 1 June - 31 August sprinkler switch-off.

A Marangaroo leak at the base of a coil
A Marangaroo system had station 2 apparently stuck open, with water surfacing near where the solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) was expected to be. Testing that station showed the leak was coming from the base of the coil itself rather than from the pipework around it — a useful distinction, because water appearing near a valve is usually assumed to be a pipe failure and dug up accordingly.
The station 2 coil was replaced. Our technician also replaced the master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off), located and replaced the station 1 solenoid, and dealt with broken pop-ups on station 1.
Where a valve is leaking from the coil rather than the fittings, the repair is a component swap in the valve box rather than an excavation — provided the diagnosis is made before the shovel comes out.
Rewiring a Marangaroo valve manifold
The wiring at this Marangaroo valve manifold was simply too short to work with. In December 2025 our technician replaced the solenoids on stations 1 and 2 and rewired every solenoid. The multicore cable was run back 500 mm to its last connection point, so each join could be made properly and housed in a protected box. The master solenoid and the controller were replaced as well.
Short wires at a manifold are often the legacy of past repairs: every time a joint is cut out and remade, the cable loses a little length, until there is nothing left to join. A final system test was booked for an early-morning visit a few days later.

Local reticulation questions
Yes, but get the City's approval first. Marangaroo is in the City of Wanneroo. Irrigation pipes and connections shall be laid beneath the nature strip between 150mm and 300mm deep.
Generally yes — Marangaroo sits over accessible groundwater, which is why garden bores are common here. What varies is depth, yield and how much iron comes up with the water — all worth checking on your block before committing. We install, service and repair bores and pumps.
Marangaroo sits on Spearwood sands. Water moves through it fast, and the sand can turn water-repellent once it dries out. The most common thing we get booked for in Marangaroo is controller work, so that's where the technician starts. We aim for around 10mm on each of your two watering days, and decide on site whether that wants one run or two cycles inside the same window.
Water Corporation sets Marangaroo's sprinkler days: check yours with your street number and postcode. In Perth and Mandurah that's two days a week, once before 9am or after 6pm, bores included; elsewhere the roster can differ. The winter switch-off runs from 1 June to 31 August. After it, the Bureau of Meteorology's Perth Metro station averages about 80 mm of rain in September and 40 mm in October.
A controller repair isn't quoted: book the visit and it's diagnosed and fixed on site. An upgrade, say to Wi-Fi, can be quoted without a visit: tell us if your controller is hardwired or plugs into a power point (a photo helps). If it needs an electrician, we arrange one.
