A Landsdale mainline joined to a lateral
A Landsdale system had four faulty valves — three in the back yard and one at the front — all affecting how the whole system behaved, and all of which our technician replaced. Part of the problem persisted afterwards, which is where the interesting work began.
By digging along the pipe runs and capping sections in turn to eliminate them, the actual cause was found: the mainline had been connected to a lateral line. That is a plumbing error rather than a failure, and it means pressurised mainline water is being fed into pipework designed to be live only when its station runs.
Systematic elimination is the only reliable way to find a fault like that, because nothing about it shows on the surface and no component has failed — the system was built that way.
