Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Free-draining yellow sand with limestone often close beneath — great drainage, poor moisture holding. Splitting one watering into two cycles inside the same window suits it, and retic trenching can hit caprock.
Groundwater & bores. Shallow sandy geology means bores in this area usually deliver reliable garden water; pairing one with well-tuned reticulation keeps large lawns affordable. The 2-day roster and winter ban apply to bore watering too.

When the valves can't be found in Alexander Heights
An Alexander Heights job arrived with the reticulation already isolated and a request to replace a faulty solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) and test the system. Straightforward enough — provided the solenoid can be found.
Our technician worked to locate the solenoids and master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off), tracking the wiring and excavating around the water meter, and the underlying problems turned out to be in the wiring and the master solenoid rather than in a single replaceable valve. Rather than keep digging speculatively at the customer's expense, the position was formally reported so the remaining work could be scoped and scheduled properly.
Locating is the hidden cost in retic repair. On a system with no records, no valve boxes and damaged wiring, finding the components can take longer than replacing them, and it is more honest to say so than to keep opening holes.
Moving an Alexander Heights controller to the power
Where a controller goes depends on two things: power and cable. At an Alexander Heights home in December 2024, there was no multicore cable at the old controller position or the new one. So our technician traced the multicore's path from the master valve and chose the controller spot with an existing power point closest to it. The multicore was cut and redirected in new cable to that spot, and the homeowner's own controller was installed.
