A Kardinya valve still under pressure
A Kardinya system had a leak, which a system check traced to a solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station). The detail worth recording came before the replacement: as our technician went to undo the coil, the valve was found to still be under pressure.
That is a check that matters — working on a pressurised valve can injure the person doing it and can drive debris through the system. The pressure was there because the master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off) was stuck open, so the mainline never de-pressurised.
The master valve was located and swapped, along with the leaking station solenoid. Two things made the job harder than it should have been: the master valve was not in a valve box, and the isolation valve was rusted and seized open, so the system could not be shut down at the point it was designed to be shut down at.
