What does Joondanna’s soil and water mean for your retic?
Soil — Spearwood sands. Free-draining yellow sand with limestone often close beneath — great drainage, poor moisture holding. Splitting one watering into two cycles inside the same window suits it, and retic trenching can hit caprock.
Groundwater & bores. Shallow sandy geology means bores in this area usually deliver reliable garden water; pairing one with well-tuned reticulation keeps large lawns affordable. The 2-day roster and winter ban apply to bore watering too.
Rainfall — about 718mm a year. The Perth Metro gauge averages ~718mm a year, ~79% of it May through September — dial summer cycles for zero rainfall help and let the winter switch-off do its job.

From our Joondanna job book
A Joondanna station that wouldn't run
A Joondanna homeowner had already fitted a new solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) to station 1 before we arrived, and the station still would not run. That is a useful clue in itself: when a new part does not fix a fault, the fault is usually not in the part.
Our technician tested the circuit and moved the station 1 wire onto the spare station 6 terminal, where the valve ran properly. Swapping terminals separates the controller from everything downstream of it — same wire, same solenoid, different output — so the fault sat in the controller's station 1 output, not in the part the owner had already replaced.
The second issue was pressure. The pop-ups were passing so much water that they could not rise fully and seal, which shows up as heads that dribble instead of spraying.
Our advice was to replace the low-quality pop-ups with better heads on lower-flow nozzles — precision nozzles or MP Rotators — so the available pressure is enough to lift and seal every head on the station.
What we actually find in Joondanna
We've completed 462 jobs in Joondanna. For this pattern check we read the 6 with the fullest, most recent technician notes — a capped sample, deliberately small and not random. 3 involved low pressure and poor flow (11% across the 1,781 Perth jobs sampled the same way) and 4 involved broken pop-ups and blocked nozzles (29%). Counts overlap, because one job can carry both. It is not Joondanna's fault rate, and we don't publish it as one.
