Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Free-draining yellow sand with limestone often close beneath — great drainage, poor moisture holding. Splitting one watering into two cycles inside the same window suits it, and retic trenching can hit caprock.

A Joondanna station that wouldn't run
A Joondanna homeowner had already fitted a new solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) to station 1 before we arrived, and the station still would not run. That is a useful clue in itself: when a new part does not fix a fault, the fault is usually not in the part.
Our technician tested the circuit and moved the station 1 wire onto the spare station 6 terminal, where the valve ran properly. Swapping terminals separates the controller from everything downstream of it — same wire, same solenoid, different output — so the fault sat in the controller's station 1 output, not in the part the owner had already replaced.
The second issue was pressure. The pop-ups were passing so much water that they could not rise fully and seal, which shows up as heads that dribble instead of spraying.
Our advice was to replace the low-quality pop-ups with better heads on lower-flow nozzles — precision nozzles or MP Rotators — so the available pressure is enough to lift and seal every head on the station.
One dead station out of seven in Joondanna
In January 2026 a Joondanna homeowner had a seven-station reticulation system with one station that had stopped working. Our technician located the station 2 valve electronically, rather than digging for it, and replaced it.
The same visit found snapped pipework running out to the verge, which was repaired. A new sprinkler was fitted with a concrete surround to protect it, and another sprinkler at the rear was replaced.
Electronic locating matters in an established garden. The locator follows the valve's wiring underground, so the dig happens once and in the right place, instead of trenching across garden beds looking for a buried valve box.
