Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Free-draining yellow sand with limestone often close beneath — great drainage, poor moisture holding. Splitting one watering into two cycles inside the same window suits it, and retic trenching can hit caprock.
Groundwater & bores. Good bore country: the superficial aquifer is within practical drilling reach under these sands. Watering from a bore costs pumping power rather than scheme rates — with the same 2-day roster and winter ban as everyone else.

The controller wired into speaker cable
This one arrived through a housing maintenance program as a straightforward inspect-and-report. At the controller, the common wire had been pulled out and joined to a length of speaker cable running off into the electrical box cavity — and the wiring at the controller didn't match the wiring at the dropout at all.
Digging down to the solenoids explained the rest: the wiring at the master valve and the valve manifold had disintegrated. We traced every run, stripped out the excess and improvised connections, reinstated the joins that mattered and rehoused the lot. Then the system was tested and the sprinklers adjusted — decades of quick fixes unwound in a single visit.
Pulling the bore pump at the unit complex
At an Innaloo unit complex under a housing maintenance program, the bore pump had failed — and damaged the pump relay on its way out. The job ran end to end: pull the old pump from the bore, install the new one, have the damaged relay repaired so the controller could switch the bore safely again, then test the whole system under power.
Pump swapped, relay repaired, shared grounds watering again — the kind of bore-and-retic job we handle as one trade visit instead of three.
"Water spraying everywhere"
The call described a burst in the garden system, water spraying everywhere and flooding the garden. On site, we found the leak about a metre from the valve box in the lawn — exposed the area and found not one but two splits in the poly pipe. Both repaired, nozzles replaced across the lawn and garden-bed stations, the controller plugged back in and the clock set.
One more thing worth saying out loud: the far corner of the lawn appeared to have no pop-up at all — no sign one had ever been installed. Rather than let a browning corner become the next mystery call-out, we noted it and recommended adding a sprinkler there for full coverage. That kind of note is the difference between a quick patch and a repair you can trust.
A recent Innaloo repair, start to finish
One of our Innaloo jobs in February 2026 traced back to the least convenient place to have a leak — the run between the water meter and the master valve, where our technician found a hole in the poly pipe. Where a leak sits matters. Pipework upstream of the master valve is under mains pressure every hour of the day, not only on watering days, so a split there runs continuously and usually shows up on the water bill long before anyone notices a dry patch in the lawn. Rather than patch a length of poly that had already failed once, we removed that section entirely and re-plumbed it in 25mm PVC. The system was then re-tested on site and confirmed running, ready for its next scheduled watering day.
