A Hillarys controller stripped back and rewired
A Hillarys system had a solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) failing in the area the owner was concerned about, which our technician established and replaced. The larger piece of work was at the controller, which was stripped back and rewired.
Rewiring a controller rather than replacing it is worth doing where the unit itself is sound: terminal connections loosen, corrode or get crossed over years of repairs, and a careful rewire restores reliable switching without the cost of a new controller and the reprogramming that follows. One design note was recorded for the future: the system was originally designed for scheme water, and the lawn areas appear to have had 20mm PVC installed.
Knowing what a system was designed around matters when anything about the supply changes — pipe sized for one source and pressure will not necessarily suit another.
