Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Spearwood-belt sand sheds water quickly past roots; wetting agents and short repeat cycles keep gardens even. Limestone near the surface calls for experience when digging in new lines.
Groundwater & bores. The superficial aquifer here typically supports domestic garden bores — a big running-cost saving over scheme water for lawns. Note bore users now share the standard 2-days-per-week roster and the 1 June - 31 August switch-off.
Rainfall — about 727mm a year. Averages about 727mm a year at the Swanbourne gauge with roughly 78% falling May-September — so the controller should step down through autumn and observe the 1 June - 31 August sprinkler switch-off.

A Fremantle service visit, start to finish
A Fremantle property was booked for a general service — assess the reticulation, set the timer, replace what needed replacing. Our technician tested the system through and renewed the micro nozzles that had failed.
Micro nozzles are the component that most often goes unnoticed: they are small, they sit low in the planting, and a blocked or broken one does not announce itself the way a lawn sprinkler throwing water across a driveway does. The plants simply do worse than the ones beside them.
A service visit is the point at which those get found, because the system is run station by station with somebody actually watching each emitter. Setting the controller correctly afterwards is the other half — the best-maintained system in Perth waters nothing if the schedule is wrong.
Chasing low pressure on a Fremantle system
Low pressure was the problem at this Fremantle home in September 2024. Our technician checked along the main line and found no leaks. An isolation valve stuck halfway shut was noted as a possible cause, and weak pressure on one station pointed to a faulty solenoid.
The master valve and the station 1 solenoid valve were both replaced. The solenoids on this system sit in weatherproof boxes, and their locations are known, so there was no hunting for them. A half-closed isolation valve starves every station at once, which makes it one of the first things worth checking when a whole system feels weak.
