What does Hilton’s soil and water mean for your retic?
Soil — Spearwood sands. Quick-draining yellow sand where moisture rarely lingers; frequent short cycles and periodic coverage checks keep growth even across the limestone country.
Groundwater & bores. Domestic bores perform well across this sand-plain suburb, and an older bore is often worth servicing rather than abandoning. Bore watering follows the standard 2-day roster and the June-August sprinkler switch-off.
Rainfall — about 808mm a year. Annual rain near 808mm and strongly seasonal (~79% May-Sep at Jandakot Aero); the practical schedule is full summer duty, tapering shoulder seasons, sprinklers off 1 June - 31 August.

A Hilton system leaking with the controller off
A Hilton owner reported something that sounds contradictory: the controller could be switched off, and water still leaked — enough that the mains had to be shut off to the whole property to stop it. There is nothing contradictory about it.
Water flowing when the controller is off means a valve is open mechanically, holding itself open on water pressure with no electrical signal at all. Our technician located the station valve that was stuck on and replaced it, and replaced the coil on the master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off), which was also stuck on.
Leaks in the poly were repaired and nozzles and spectrum emitters replaced, then the controller reset to the correct time, date and watering days. Having to shut the mains off to stop reticulation is a clear sign the fault is in a valve, not in the programming.
