An Ashfield job came to us as a system where no station would come on. Our technician's checks pointed away from the reticulation itself and towards its power supply.
Opening up the backboard confirmed it: the retic wiring to the valves was present, but there was no power point behind the controller position, and the hard-wired electrical cables there had been capped off. The system had everything it needed except a supply.
Restoring it meant an electrician installing a power point, and a controller mounted and connected to it — not any work on the reticulation at all. That distinction is worth drawing, because an electrical fault and a retic fault look identical from the front of a controller: nothing runs.
Only one of them is a job for a reticulation technician, and knowing which before booking saves a visit.
