Converting a Kalamunda system to rotator nozzles
A Kalamunda system was converted across to MP rotator nozzles, with the existing fixed sprays and gear drives (a rotating sprinkler for larger areas) replaced throughout. Sprinklers were also relocated, raised and replaced as needed to get the spacing and height right for the new nozzle type — a rotator's throw and pattern differ from a fixed spray, so positions that suited the old heads do not automatically suit the new ones.
The station time was then extended to match. That step is not optional.
Rotator nozzles apply water considerably more slowly, and converting a station without lengthening its run time leaves the area drier than before the upgrade, which is how a genuine efficiency improvement ends up blamed for killing a lawn. A station was also extended to include mist sprays under the covered area, and the controller battery replaced.
