What kind of retic work do we do in Hovea?
A Hovea owner had attempted their own reticulation repairs a couple of months earlier, including replacing a solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station), and ended up with an entire station not working — by which point a good deal of the lawn had died. That is a common and expensive sequence. A valve replacement looks simple, and it is, provided the wiring is remade correctly and the station tested afterwards; when it is not, the failure is silent, and nobody discovers it until the grass shows it. Our technician replaced and raised several pop-ups, and swapped a leaking tap for a ball valve, which is the more durable fitting for something turned regularly. The most useful advice we can give on any do-it-yourself retic repair is to run the station afterwards and watch every head.
