Lifting a new Whitby lawn to connect the back yard
A Whitby installation ran into a sequencing problem that costs money on a lot of new builds: the front yard landscaping had already been installed without a connection provided for the back yard reticulation. Getting water to the rear meant lifting the newly laid lawn, connecting to the mainline, and relaying the turf — work that would have been unnecessary had a connection point been left during the front yard works.
An additional eight metres of trenching and twenty metres of five-core wire were needed. Site fencing also had to be removed for access, and three cubic metres of soil brought in.
The lesson generalises to any staged landscaping project: leave a capped connection and a spare wire run wherever a later stage will need one, before the surface goes down.
