A metre from where the Mardella water surfaced
A Mardella site had a major break on the line from its tank, and the ground was saturated because the tank had not been isolated. The first lesson is in the location: water was bubbling up at one point, but the actual break was about a metre back from it.
Water under pressure travels along the path of least resistance before it finds the surface, so digging where you can see it is often digging in the wrong place. The cause was tree roots wrapped around a 50mm slip fix, which had cracked the side of the fitting.
Roots were cut out to reach it, the tank isolated and the water allowed to drain before the repair could be made. Our technician also tested the controller and checked the current load to all nineteen solenoids (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) along with the wiring connections.
