Gear drives that had stopped turning in Cardup
A Cardup property was worked through station by station, and station 8 produced the most telling fault: three gear drive (a rotating sprinkler for larger areas) sprinklers that were no longer turning. A gear drive rotates a stream of water across an arc, and when the internal mechanism seizes it stops rotating and dumps its entire output onto one narrow strip.
From a distance it looks like it is working — water is coming out — but the rest of the arc receives nothing, so a dry sector appears with a saturated line through the middle of it. All three were replaced, along with two pop-ups and three nozzles on that station, a pop-up and nozzle on station 9, and a leak repaired in the pipework.
Gear drives elsewhere were adjusted, and the system checked through.
