Coastal dune sand: fast drainage and your sprinklers
Soil — Quindalup coastal sands. These coastal dunes shed water straight past the root zone, so one long soak is wasted. A tuned controller splitting the run into two short cycles inside the same watering window (both before 9am, or both after 6pm) suits this sand.
Groundwater & bores. Groundwater under this part of the coastal plain is generally accessible, so a garden bore (new or revived) is a practical way to water without paying scheme rates. Water Corporation's roster and winter sprinkler ban still apply to bores.
Rainfall — about 718mm a year. Roughly 718mm a year here (Perth Metro), with about 79% of it falling May-September — the long dry rest of the year is why controller programming and coverage checks pay for themselves.

A Heathridge system with the water turned off at the isolator
A Heathridge site had no water at all, and the reason was simple once found: the supply had been turned off at the isolation valve. Locating that valve was the first task.
It is worth checking before anything else on a system that is completely dead, because a closed isolator produces exactly the same symptom as a failed master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off), a dead controller or a cut common wire (the shared return wire every valve uses) — and it takes seconds to rule out rather than an hour to diagnose. With water restored, our technician replaced five jammed sprinklers along with their MP nozzles, programmed the controller, and adjusted every sprinkler to keep spray off the road and paths as far as the layout allowed.
Spray onto hard surfaces is wasted water and, on a public path, a hazard as well as a nuisance.
Three station faults at a Heathridge property
Testing at a housing property in Heathridge in June 2022 turned up three separate station problems. Station 3 had no wire connected at the controller, and had possibly been decommissioned a long time ago.
Station 7 was working, but a new fence appeared to have gone in, and the PVC pipe was cracked in two sections. Those cracks couldn't be reached because large bushes were in the way, and the bushes need to come out before the pipe can be repaired.
Station 9 didn't seem to work. A multimeter gave no reading on it, and although our technician tried to locate the fault, tracking it down would take a lot more time. No reading usually means a break somewhere between the controller and the valve, in the wire or the coil itself.

Local reticulation questions
Yes, it's a permissible verge treatment. Heathridge is in the City of Joondalup. Irrigation pipes should be laid beneath the verge at a depth between 150mm and 300mm. Verge rules are council-level; watering days aren't, and the two get confused constantly.
