Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Sand over limestone drains rapidly and can turn water-repellent in summer — a wetting agent, plus splitting the run into two shorter cycles inside the same watering window (both before 9am, or both after 6pm), is the standard fix in this belt.
Groundwater & bores. Good bore country: the superficial aquifer is within practical drilling reach under these sands. Watering from a bore costs pumping power rather than scheme rates — with the same 2-day roster and winter ban as everyone else.
Rainfall — about 750mm a year. The Medina Research Centre gauge averages ~750mm a year, ~77% of it May through September — dial summer cycles for zero rainfall help and let the winter switch-off do its job.

Getting the wire to the controller in Anketell
An Anketell job had a constraint that shaped the whole installation: the controller position was fixed by an existing outdoor power point at the front of the house, and the valves are elsewhere. Getting solenoid wire from the valves to that controller meant lifting and relaying paving along the route.
That is the hidden cost in retrofitting a controller to an established property, and it is worth knowing before choosing where the controller goes — the convenient wall for the unit is not always the least expensive one once the wire has to reach it. The work also included minor earthworks, reusing existing soil and shaping new levels to match the surrounding hard surfaces, plus rubbish removal.
Tap timers were to be fitted on a splitter manifold, which lets more than one line run from a single tap.

Generally yes — Anketell sits over accessible groundwater, which is why garden bores are common here. Depth, yield and iron content still vary block to block, so it's worth assessing rather than assuming. We install, service and repair bores and pumps.
Anketell sits on Spearwood sands. Water moves through it fast, and the sand can turn water-repellent once it dries out. The most common thing we get booked for in Anketell is controller work, so that's where the technician starts.
