Sand over limestone: what it means for your retic
Soil — Spearwood sands. Quick-draining yellow sand where moisture rarely lingers; frequent short cycles and periodic coverage checks keep growth even across the limestone country.
Groundwater & bores. Shallow sandy geology means bores in this area usually deliver reliable garden water; pairing one with well-tuned reticulation keeps large lawns affordable. The 2-day roster and winter ban apply to bore watering too.
Rainfall — about 750mm a year. Roughly 750mm a year here (Medina Research Centre), with about 77% of it falling May-September — the long dry rest of the year is why controller programming and coverage checks pay for themselves.

Two broken pipes on one Leda station
A Leda property had a leak reported on one of the front stations, and there turned out to be two breaks rather than one: a 13mm poly line and a 25mm PVC line, both damaged. Our technician repaired both.
Finding a second break is common once the first has been sealed, and there is a mechanical reason for it — with the first leak gone, the station holds proper pressure again, and the next weak point is put under a load it has not carried for some time. Running the system after every repair is what catches it on the same visit.
Three micro sprays and two lawn nozzles were replaced, and the system tested through and confirmed working. Both the controller and the system were checked at the outset to establish where the leak actually was.

Local reticulation questions

Generally yes — Leda sits over accessible groundwater, which is why garden bores are common here. What varies is depth, yield and how much iron comes up with the water — all worth checking on your block before committing. We install, service and repair bores and pumps.
Leda sits on Spearwood sands. Water moves through it fast, and the sand can turn water-repellent once it dries out. The most common thing we get booked for in Leda is leak & pipe repairs, so that's where the technician starts. The schedule is built around about 10mm on each rostered day — split into two cycles inside the same watering window when the ground won't take it in one.
Water Corporation sets Leda's sprinkler days: check yours with your street number and postcode. In Perth and Mandurah that's two days a week, once before 9am or after 6pm, bores included; elsewhere the roster can differ. The winter switch-off runs from 1 June to 31 August. After it, the Bureau of Meteorology's Medina station averages about 78 mm of rain in September and 39 mm in October, close to central Perth's 80 mm.
