What does Carramar’s soil and water mean for your retic?
Soil — Spearwood sands. Quick-draining yellow sand where moisture rarely lingers; frequent short cycles and periodic coverage checks keep growth even across the limestone country.
Groundwater & bores. This is favourable ground for garden bores — sand all the way to the water table in most streets. Bore-fed retic avoids scheme water charges, though the same 2-day roster and winter switch-off govern when it can run.
Rainfall — about 672mm a year. Annual rain near 672mm and strongly seasonal (~77% May-Sep at Pearce Raaf); the practical schedule is full summer duty, tapering shoulder seasons, sprinklers off 1 June - 31 August.

A leak at the valve socket in Carramar
A Carramar property had a leak at a station valve in the lawn, and the precise location mattered. The water was coming from the valve socket — the threaded fitting the solenoid (the electrically-operated valve that feeds one station) screws into — rather than from the valve body or the pipe.
That is a different repair: the socket has to be cut out and replaced along with the solenoid, because a damaged or perished socket will leak just as readily behind a brand new valve. Our technician cut out and replaced both.
The master valve (the main valve that shuts the whole system off) was also found stuck open, which was explained to the owner and replaced. Damage to a coil and wiring on the back lawn stations was identified as well.
Diagnosing exactly which component at a valve assembly is leaking determines whether the fix is a five-minute swap or a cut-and-rebuild.
