Hills gravel: slopes, runoff and uneven sprinkler pressure
Soil — Darling Scarp gravels. Rocky lateritic ground makes trenching hard work and slopes make pressure uneven — head-by-head pressure regulation and soak cycles are the local essentials.
Groundwater & bores. Drilling through laterite and granite is costly with uncertain yield, so few hills properties bore. Efficiency — seasonal scheduling, rain sensors, leak-free hardware — is where the savings are.

Local reticulation questions
Not without approval first. Chidlow is in the Shire of Mundaring. Note that your watering days don't come from the council; that roster is set state-wide.
Groundwater access around Chidlow is limited, so bores are less common here and often not the right answer. A properly zoned system with matched sprinklers and a modern controller gets excellent results on scheme water instead.
