Submersible or pressure pump – which is right?
Submersible bore pumps
A submersible pump sits down inside the bore casing, beneath the water, and pushes water up to the surface. It’s quiet, efficient and the standard choice for the majority of Perth garden bores – especially deeper bores where the water sits well below ground level.
Because the motor is cooled by the surrounding water and stays out of sight, a well-sized submersible pump runs reliably for years with minimal fuss. The bore cover can sit flush with your lawn or be buried and hidden from view.
Pressure & jet pumps
A pressure or jet pump sits above ground and draws water up from the bore. This style suits shallower bores where the water level is closer to the surface, and is also used to boost pressure on some systems and tank set-ups.
Above-ground pumps are easy to access for servicing, but they have practical limits on how far down they can lift water. At your bore investigation we’ll measure your standing water level and recommend the type that’ll perform best for your bore.

How we install your bore pump
Every install starts with a bore investigation. Our technician inspects the bore, checks its depth and standing water level, and confirms the condition of the casing. From there we recommend the correct pump and provide a written quote to supply and install it.
On installation day we fit the pump, run and connect the riser and fittings, wire the pump to its supply, and tie it into your reticulation. We then prime, run and test the system, set the controller and make sure every zone is getting the pressure and coverage it needs.
Sizing the pump correctly
Getting the size right is what separates a reticulation system that runs beautifully from one that struggles. We size your pump around four things:
- Bore depth and standing water level
- The number of sprinkler zones it has to run
- The pressure and flow your reticulation needs
- The capacity (yield) of the bore itself
Undersize the pump and zones run weak; oversize it and you waste power and risk drawing the bore down faster than it recharges. Matching the pump to the bore is exactly what the investigation is for.
