Inside a gear-drive pop-up rotor
Rotors water the larger lawn areas. Water pressure pushes the riser up out of the ground, a small turbine inside turns the gears, and the gears turn the nozzle slowly across the lawn.
The animation pops one up, then takes it apart so you can see every part. The numbers match the parts list underneath.

- Inlet screen
- Catches grit before it reaches the moving parts.
- Turbine and gear drive
- Water spins the turbine; the gears turn that into the slow sweep of the nozzle turret.
- Wiper seal
- Seals around the riser as it rises and keeps dirt out of the body.
- Retract spring
- Pulls the riser back down, flush with the lawn, when the station turns off.
